About the Project "Travels in a Beautiful World" was conceived over a year ago in response to the international political climate. It represents an overwhelming need to understand why conflict persists. the aim of the project at its most basic is to communicate with, understand and convey the opinions of young people from around the world and especially from places that have experienced conflict in the recent past, so as to understand their current needs and ways to prevent future conflict. As the project was developed and its aims focussed, the project maintained one central aim: to record and convey the hopes and aspirations of young people that have experienced conflict. By hopes and aspirations we mean their hopes and wishes for their future, their country's future and the world's future. By young people we mean those aged between sixteen and twenty-eight. By conflict we mean genocide, war, civil conflict and a breakdown of civil order. It is felt that such an aim is hugely important because it is this generation that will control the world's resources, fight the world's wars and hold the key to peace in the future. If this generation remains misunderstood and neglected we are preparing the ground for further conflict. this potential makes such an understanding an imperative. The Office of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees also felt that this issue was an important one, and the project was one worth supporting. (read there words of endorsement here) With their co-operation we concluded that there were four places that were of interest to the project. These were Rwanda, Kosovo, Afghanistan and East Timor (due to security concerns and logistical difficulties, the final trip was to Jordan and not Afghanistan and East Timor). Each place represents a different type of conflict and one that has taken place a either very recently or not so long ago. As such each place has affected young people in a different way. The research is to be recorded on various forms of media, you can see photos and videos of the project throughout the site.
